Before this week, my total understanding of SEO was that it stood for Search Engine Optimization and that I wanted my blog posts to have a green SEO button instead of a red SEO button (I use the WordPress plugin Yoast SEO).  I had no idea what Google Analytics meant.  And now, I have seen the light!

SEO or Search Engine Optimization

SEO basically means what you do to make your site and your content easier to find.  Whether your clientele use Chrome, Yahoo, Bing, or some other browser, you can optimize your content to make sure your site appears towards the top of the search results.

My 3 Big Takeaways from SEO:

  1.  Optimize your titles
  2.  Optimize your links
  3.  Optimize your images
Yoast SEO

The Yoast SEO plugin offers helpful information that will optimize your content.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is like the statistics genie you never knew you needed!  You can get SO MUCH information from Google Analytics, and all you have to do is set it up.  It shocking and almost a little ‘Big Brother’s Watching You’-ish.  However, all the info provided from this magic site can be really helpful in further developing content and making adjustments to your site.

Things You Can Find on Google Analytics:

  1.  The age range of people viewing your site
  2.  What device they viewed your site on
  3.  How long they stayed on a page
  4.  What browser they used
  5.  What other interests they may have
With this information you can ‘tweak’ your site to better your views and lowers your bounce rates (when people quickly leave a page after clicking on it).  Do most people view your site on a mobile device?  Then consider a mobile first approach.  Is the average age range a little older than you were thinking?  Maybe make your text and button sizes larger to accommodate.  Like I said before, SO MUCH useful information all at your fingertips!
Google Analytics Dashboard (GADWP)

The Google Analytics Dashboard (GADWP) is a fantastic WordPress Plugin that provides you all the great stats right in your WordPress dashboard.

And in case your were wondering, with the tips and tricks I learned this week, my SEO and Readability scores on this post were in the green (which means good)!
